Click Click Flash

A picture is worth a thousand words. If someone were to take a picture of your life right now, what would that say about you? What type of person would you come across as? Would you look confident or self conscious? Whats in the background of your life's snapshot? Is the room junky or organized or are there people distracting you? You may not notice any of these from inside the photograph, but take a look at it from a different perspective and open you eyes to a world of things you never knew about yourself. It's very difficult to solve a problem from within. I believe the only way you can successfully solve anything without bias is to take a step back and assess it as if  it were someone else's problem. Think about it. We always give better advice to our friends than we give ourselves because we try to justify our own actions. By looking at things from a better view, such as a hypothetical picture, it allows us to analyze what's really going on and doctor up the right solution. So get out that Nikon and start snapping away. You may be surprised at what you learn about yourself.

Take Those Blinders Off!

Stay focused, stay focused. Keep your eye on the prize. Don't let anything distract you! How many times have you said those words to yourself over and over again? It's with good intentions, but good intentions don't always yeild good results. The world is such a huge place, and how do expect to see it if you're only looking at what's in front of you? Sure you really do need to focus on your goals, but you should also be taking in what's going on around you. It makes the journey more fun and you could be creating more opportunites for yourself. By enlarging your vision you are opening a world of opportunities that could give you a better perspective on your situation. It could even give you a new situation. You may start out thinking that you want to do one thing with your life and then you end up in better place doing another because you were openminded when given the full options of what life had to offer. For example, when you start kindergarten everyone wants to grow up, go to college, and get a good job. After high school, the majority still want that, but others will decide that other choices are better for them, such as joining the military or going straight into the work force. Fast forward to the 10 year high school reunion. There may be a lot of successful people, but even though everyone started out as a little kid with the same plan, not everyone followed the same path. So give yourself a chance. Take off those blinders, enlarge your vision, and take advantages of the things you have in front of you. You may be surpised at the outcome. Keep in mind that it's not about where you're going but more about the journey that you take to get there. Happy traveling!

Retraining Your Brain

It's safe to say that the most successful people have a certain way of thinking. They are witty, come up with great ideas, and turn those ideas into successful business ventures. A lot of people have mentors who are successful because it seems like they have a natural intelligence. Little do we know, it wasn't always so natural for them. Once they decided they wanted to be successful they had to reprogram their minds and change the way their brains worked. If you want to flourish and take your life to the next level you must learn how to pay attention to details, form better work habits, and not take no for an answer. None of those points seem profound, but those aren't traits that everyone is born with. Everyone who has a thriving career had to be taught those things in order to get where they are now.

There are many things that make up successful people; however, the most basic three that everyone seems to have are attention to detail, good work ethic, and determination. Someone who says they pay great attention the detail are very meticulous. It's a trait that everyone wants in a CEO because they are responsible for the well being of a company. They can't afford to make mistakes or to let things get overlooked and fall into the cracks. Some people aren't blessed to be born with this trait, but that doesn't mean you can't obtain it. Just by taking your time, reading the small print, and demanding perfect results will allow you to be thorough in all that you do, no matter if it's your personal life or business life.

Along with being detail oriented, you must have a suburb work ethic to go with it. That means teaching yourself not to be lazy. Don't take shortcuts in the work that you do and half-ass things. Half-assing never makes for a good anything. This retraining is actually taught to us in school when we are told to do homework and create outlines and study guides in order to prepare for tests. On the contrary, though everyone is taught this, it doesn't mean everyone picks it up and uses it in their everyday life. It is important that we take those bad work habits (procrastination, disorganization, and tardiness) and do the exact opposite. That means doing things before the last minute, always know where everything is at all times, and being punctual and prepared. No one ever got far with a bad work ethic, and if your work ethic is not where it should be, then it's time to reteach yourself better habits.

You can have the best work ethic in the world, but if you don't believe in your dream then you may as well throw up the white flag and give up. The most absolute important thing that you have to do when retraining your brain is to BELIEVE that failure is not an option. Nothing else matters when compared to that. You can have everything that you could possibly need to reach your goals, but if you don't believe it or think it will work then you are never going to get there. If you are having a hard time thinking positive try some positive self talk. Look in the mirror and say good things like "I can do it" or "failure is not an option", and say it with conviction. It may sound corny, but it will work. Just keep saying good things to yourself until you actually believe it. By just saying it and putting it out there it will create positive energy around you, and the next time you feel unsure about something just repeat those words and make yourself believe it. Eventually, you will have instilled that way of thinking instilled in you, and failure won't be an option.

Carpe Diem

Every morning I wake up I have the phrase carpe diem going through my mind. Carpe diem is Latin, and it simply means "seize the day". Sometimes we get so caught up in preparing for the future that we forget about today. After all, today is the only day that counts because you can't go back and change yesterday and you don't know what's in store for tomorrow. Therefore we should make every moment in today count and be meaningful. Take advantage of once in a lifetime opportunities that may come your way because you never know when you will get a chance do it again. Feel free to get messy and make mistakes because sometimes that's the only way you will learn. At then end of it all, once you have become the person you want to be, you will be able to look back and enjoy the journey that you took to get to where you are. Everyone has stories of success and defeat, but the best ones are the ones where they took advantage of all life had to offer to them. What will your story be?
